Nexus 5: How to take Photos while recording Videos

The Nexus 5 is capable of taking live photos while recording a video. Here is how to do it:

  1. Start recording a video using Google Camera
  2. While recording, simply tap the screen in the part showing the video to take a picture. A flash of white on screen will confirm that a picture was taken.

These pictures are limited by the resolution of video being recorded. If you are recording a Full HD video, the picture will be of the size 1920×1080 pixels

Android – How to remove Unwanted App Notifications

Unwanted App Notifications are a pain. Also If you didn’t know, these notifications can also be a big battery drain.

Fortunately if you are on Android version 4.1 or higher there is a simple way to permanently remove an app’s notifications. Here is how you do that:

  1. In your notification bar, do a long press on the unwanted App Notification.
  2. You should get a pop up option “App info
  3. Tap on App Info and you will be taken to the App Info page of the App
  4. Here Uncheck “Show Notifications” and hit OK in the confirmation box.

Now you should be free of unwanted notifications in future 🙂

Android: How to update Google Camera to the latest version

If you chose not to update Google Camera when the option was first presented to you, and now want to update it but dont know how, dont sweat we are here to help 🙂

Here is how to update the app on your phone:

  1. Open the Play Store App on your phone.
  2. Press the three horizontal bars on the top left corner of the app, it will open an menu for you.
  3. In this menu Choose “My Apps
  4. The next page has a list of all the apps installed on your phone, with the ones with updates available on top of the list.
  5. Scroll down to find “Google Camera“. Press on the logo to go to the app page
  6. Here you will get two options on the top right: Update & Uninstall. Press Update.
  7. Hit Continue in the App Permission Screen to start the download and install.

How to Enable Manual Exposure in Google Camera App

Google just updated its Camera app to bring in new features and performance. But any prolific camera user will find that the Exposure settings are missing in the options provide on screen. Don’t worry the Exposure settings have not been removed from the app, they have just been hidden by default.

Here is how to enable the setting:

  1. Open the camera app.
  2. Swipe from left to right on the screen to bring out the mode options
  3. Tap the ‘Cog Wheel'(settings button) on the bottom right.
  4. Select “Advanced”
  5. Turn On “Manual Exposure”
  6. Hit back twice to get to the main screen
  7. Tap on options button(Screen bottom right), Now Exposure option will show up with the rest of the options.

How to Hide The ‘Last Seen Time’ on Whatsapp

Whatsapp is slowly rolling out support to hide the “Last Seen Time” infomation on Whatsapp. Below are the different ways you can do that(or atleast fake it).

IOS:

Whatsapp for IOS has already updated to a version which has the feature of hiding the “Last Seen Status”. Update to the latest version of Whatsapp and then you can activate it in the following way:

  1. Open WhatsApp and Goto ‘Settings’
  2. Goto ‘Advanced’ page
  3. Turn off the ‘Last Seen Timestamp’

Android:

This feature is available on Whatsapp for Android from the version 2.11.169 onwards. You can get the latest version of the app here: http://www.whatsapp.com/android/

Once you have the app and have installed it, here is how to activate the feature:

  1. Open Whatsapp and in the Menu Goto ‘Settings’
  2. Goto ‘Accounts’
  3. Goto ‘Privacy’
  4. Here you can disable the ‘Last Seen’ time.

 

Other Manual Hacks:

Disabling your Wifi & Data connection before opening your Whatsapp window makes sure your Last Seen time doesnt get updated.
