Kate: Not allowing to Edit Specific Files – Solution

Recently I encountered an interesting problem with Kate. When ever I opened certain files it opened them in read only mode. The files had the necessary permissions to let me write and I could open them in nano or vim and edit them successfully.

There can be multiple reasons for this happening:

  • File is in use in some program (known to cause problems with Kate)
  • File is a PHP file and being accessed somewhere
  • File has more than 1024 characters in a line. (The limit might vary but after a point the files are opened as read only)

Problem Loading Widget – Solved Android Error

If you are staring at a blank space on your home screen or a generic “Problem Loading Widget” error message, your Android launcher has hit a caching or permission bottleneck. This issue is incredibly common after an app update, a system software upgrade, or when shifting apps between internal storage and an SD card.

Instead of deleting your widgets or resetting your entire phone, follow these 5 proven, step-by-step methods to fix the widget loading glitch on Android 12, 13, 14, and the latest Android 15 systems.

1. Force Restart Your Android Launcher

The system launcher handles your entire home screen layout. If it runs out of memory, widgets fail to render.

  • Go to Settings > Apps > All Apps.
  • Scroll down and locate your system launcher (e.g., Pixel Launcher, One UI Home, Nova Launcher, or System Launcher).
  • Tap Force Stop, then return to your home screen. The UI will reload automatically, forcing the widget to refresh.

2. Clear Cache for the Affected App and Launcher

Corrupted cache files prevent the system from pulling live data into the home screen frame.

  • Long-press the specific app icon responsible for the broken widget and tap the Info (i) icon.
  • Select Storage & Cache and tap Clear Cache (Do not click clear data, as that removes your login details).
  • Go back to your launcher app settings via the Apps menu and clear its system cache as well.

3. Exclude the App from Battery Optimization

Android’s aggressive background restrictions frequently kill the services required to update widgets in real time.

  • Go to Settings > Apps > All Apps and open the background app.
  • Tap on Battery or App Battery Usage.
  • Change the setting from Optimized or Restricted to Unrestricted. This ensures the widget retains background sync permissions.

4. Move the App Back to Internal Storage

If you have formatted an SD card as adoptable storage and moved the app there, its widget components will break entirely upon device boot. Android cannot read widget layouts from external partitions.

  • Go to Settings > Storage.
  • Locate the app under your SD card files and migrate it back onto your device’s Internal Shared Storage.

5. Check “Display Over Other Apps” Permissions

Advanced interactive widgets require special display overlay clearance to render elements correctly.

  • Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Special App Access (or search for “Special Access” in your settings search bar).
  • Tap Display Over Other Apps and verify that the target app toggle is switched to Allowed.
What does “Problem Loading Widget” mean on Android?

This error occurs when your phone’s home screen launcher loses connection with the underlying app’s background data service, usually caused by corrupted cache files, aggressive battery savings, or moving the app to an external SD card.

How do I fix a widget that won’t load?

You can quickly fix it by forcing your system launcher to restart, clearing the app’s cache, setting its battery usage to “Unrestricted”, or deleting the broken widget instance and dragging a fresh one back onto your home screen canvas.

Widget loading kaise hataye? (How to remove widget loading loop?)

Android mobile me widget loading error hatane ke liye Settings > Apps me jayein, apne system launcher ko search karein, aur uska ‘Clear Cache’ aur ‘Force Stop’ karein. Isse aapka home screen freeze loop fix ho jayega.
